I am starting a weekly group to meet around the topic of the relationship of Buddha’s concepts of Emptiness and Love. This is a peer group, a sharing rather the lecturing. We will come together as inquisitive students of something of profound importance, yet difficult to grabble with. We can each bring to the group readings that we have encountered, topics of interest, questions to answer.
We will be neither a book group nor not-a-book-group; neither a discussion group nor not-a-discussion-group; neither teacher led nor not-teacher-led. This is the practice of Emptiness.
This will be a drop-in group, similar to the Wednesday and Sunday evening classes. Hopefully a core will develop to support each new arrival.
The books that some of us have been studying include The Lankavatara Sutra: An Epitomized Version and Rob Burbea’s Seeing That Frees. Having or reading these books is useful, but not essential. Each of us can read excerpts to the group from these or other sources.
Studying Emptiness or Love has, as a result, the development of embodied experience and wisdom. This is our goal.
