Touch the Sky with Sympathetic Joy
a dharma workshop with Eliza Callard
Sympathetic joy, in Buddhism, is the ability to find joy in the joyful doings of others.
It is easy to feel joy for a child learning to walk without feeling jealousy or anger. However, it is a whole different kettle of fish to feel joy for your colleague when they receive the promotion you wanted. Jealousy of their fortune, and anger it was not yours can be crippling. Jealousy and anger can feel like boggy quagmires, impossible to escape.
Come learn the Buddha’s teachings on joy. With practice, even the most difficult moments can be opportunities to feel the joy of others, to give and have reflected back true contentment. Although shedding jealousy and anger can feel like pulling out of that bog and climbing a mountain, the view from the top is worth it.
This will be a workshop with activities and times of meditation.
