Raji Malik and Radha Gopinath bring Indian-inspired music for meditation and mindful listening to a Sunday morning meditation at Springboard. Mindful listening, dharma discussion and formal silent meditation are all in store.

The Art of Listening: A Day-long Class with Michael McDermott
Sunday, July 22nd, 11:00am – 4:00pm
This day-long class explores meditative states of listening consciousness.
Through listening we can develop an intimate connection to our environment, each other and ourselves. In this day-long retreat Michael will take us through listening exercises, periods of silent meditation, Dharma talks, performance scores of singing and sounding and a sound walk in Carpenter’s Woods. The practices of Listening Consciousness are rooted in Theravada and Zen Buddhism, vipassana meditation, the Deep Listening techniques of Pauline Oliveros and the music and philosophy of John Cage.
No meditation or musical experience necessary. Beginners are welcome.

Michael Reiley McDermott is a composer, musician, sound artist and meditation teacher. His practice explores the relationship between present moment awareness, deep time and humanity’s personal connection through listening. He was a student of Deep Listening pioneer Pauline Oliveros. Currently Michael is traveling the world with artist residencies in the US, Canada, Brazil, Iceland, Germany, Thailand and India. During these residencies he practices field recording, performs concerts, researches sonic awareness and leads workshops.
